Just Some Thoughts

The dog was thrilled about all the snow.
You know, I’ve struggled to think of what to say for this newsletter, other than gosh that was a lot of snow. I’ve enjoyed it, though. Winter is my favorite season. I enjoy the snow, the cold, and the short days and long nights. No, that is not sarcasm. I am being absolutely serious right now. So while I was not a fan of how many times I had to shovel my driveway, I was still pretty happy with getting a couple good snowstorms this year. I took the dog on walks during the worst of it, because he’s part husky and winter is his favorite season as well. It was a lot of fun trekking through the snow and watching him plowing through the deepest snowdrifts he could find.
Other than the snow, I don’t have a whole lot going on to talk about. I kept this section in the newsletter mostly so I could include a photo of the dog. You’re welcome.
What I’ve Read Lately
I recently got to read The House That Eats The Dead by Max Doty, which comes out in August. It was such a fun take on haunted houses and I adored the main character, Claire. It was especially exciting to read because Max Doty is also a r/nosleep regular, and it’s really great to see someone else from that community releasing their debut novel!
I also finally read The Road To Roswell by Connie Willis. My mother has been trying to get me to read this for maybe half a year now and I finally picked it up. I don’t usually read romantic comedies, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how quirky and fun it was.
The other book I’m excited about is one I haven’t actually read yet, but it came from Prologue Bookshop as their “blind date with a bookseller” event and I think it sounds right up my alley. It’s Beta Vulgaris by Margie Sarsfield and I’m just going to slide it to the front of my reading list here.

I’ll have you know that I bought those boxes of chocolate just for the photo and I already ate them all.

What I’m Currently Working On
The paperback of The Man With No Shadow released in the UK this month! I love how it looks. It’s so interesting to see the differences between the different versions.
We’re still working on book three and I think we’re getting close to wrapping things up with editing. I got back the copyedits for it and I’m always impressed by how many things the copyeditors catch. You’d think I’d be a detail-oriented person as a computer programmer, but the truth is I rely pretty heavily on linters (automated tools that analyze code) and end-to-end testing to find mistakes. But I do enjoy going through the copyedits, it’s very satisfying to clean up all the things the copyeditors flag.

Remember, summoning circles should only be attempted by professionals.
